Power of attorney from abroad for Georgia: apostille, consulate or online
You are in Berlin, Dubai or New York and need someone in Georgia to sell your apartment, collect an inheritance, register a company or deal with a bank. A power of attorney does that, and there are three ways to make one that Georgian notaries, banks and the Public Registry will accept. The right choice depends on one question: do you hold a Georgian electronic ID card?

What the power of attorney must say
- Your data and the representative's data: full names as in the passports, dates of birth, passport or Georgian personal numbers.
- Specific powers: "to sell the apartment at [address], cadastral code [x], at a price of not less than [y], to receive the money, to sign the contract at a notary and to file the registration with the Public Registry". Georgian banks and the Registry reject vague "to represent me in all matters" powers.
- Term: a fixed period (6 or 12 months) is safer than an open-ended one.
- Right of substitution: whether the representative may delegate to someone else; usually "no".
- Signing at a notary and receiving money: if the representative should receive the sale price, say so explicitly; otherwise banks will not pay it out to them.
Ask the Georgian representative or the Georgian notary who will act on the document for the exact wording before you sign abroad. A rejected power of attorney means a second round of apostille and translation.

Revoking it
A power of attorney can be revoked at any time. One issued by a Georgian notary (in person or online) is revoked by a statement at any Georgian notary (6 ₾ + 5 ₾, or online for 60 ₾) and the revocation is visible in the national notarial registry. One issued abroad is not in that registry: revoke it at a notary in the issuing country or at a Georgian consulate, then deliver the apostilled and translated revocation to the representative and to the bank or Registry where the power was presented. Until they are notified, acts done in good faith may stand.
Typical mistakes
- Apostille missing because "Georgia will translate it anyway": the Georgian notary cannot use a foreign document without an apostille or legalization.
- Translation done abroad by a non-licensed translator: Georgian notaries certify only licensed translators' signatures; get the translation in Georgia.
- Names transliterated differently from the Georgian records of the property or company: check the spelling against the Registry extract.
- A representative who is also the buyer: a self-dealing power is often refused; use a third person.
- Expecting to use the online service with a foreign passport: it requires a Georgian ID card.
